Frequently asked questions
Should I send the full-text certificate (inteiro teor) or the standard one?
For citizenship, Home Affairs asks for a full birth certificate showing your date and place of birth, birth name, sex, the dates of issue and registration, and your parents' names. Brazil's national model for the standard certificate includes those details; the inteiro teor reproduces the whole registration entry. If an authority asks for a particular version, send that one. We translate whichever you send in full.
My certificate is an older model with no matrícula. Can you still translate it?
Yes. Brazil's National Council of Justice (CNJ), which set the current certificate model, states that certificates issued in an earlier model do not need to be replaced and remain valid indefinitely. The book, page and entry numbers are translated exactly as they appear.
How long does the translation take?
Standard delivery for a birth certificate is 2 to 4 business days. You can choose 1–2 business days, or urgent within 24 hours, at checkout.
Do I need an apostille on my Brazilian birth certificate?
Home Affairs' evidence guidance asks for the original document and an English translation and does not mention legalisation or an apostille. Brazil has been a party to the Apostille Convention since 14 August 2016, so if another authority asks for one, it is issued by an authorised cartório in Brazil. An apostille is translated as an extra page.
Can I get a printed copy?
Yes. The certified translation is always delivered as a PDF by email, and you can add a printed copy sent by post when you order.
